A Tainan City Government delegation traveled to Australia to promote local agricultural products, taking part in the University of Queensland Taiwan Night Market in Brisbane. Products including Guanmiao noodles, dried fruits, and tea eggs sold out ahead of schedule, demonstrating tangible market appeal among local consumers. The city government will continue working to secure long-term cooperation with local distributors.
In a press release issued today, the Tainan City Government stated that the delegation’s first stop in Australia was the University of Queensland Taiwan Night Market in Brisbane. According to estimates from the organizing student association, approximately 12,000 and 15,000 visitors attended the event on the two respective days. A number of products showcased in the Tainan section sold out during the event, while product tastings and inquiries also received enthusiastic responses.
Deputy Mayor Yeh Tse-Shan, who led the delegation, said the University of Queensland Taiwan Night Market featured nearly 80 booths. China Airlines, EVA Air, and overseas Taiwanese community organizations also participated, while cultural performances such as traditional glove puppetry, Third Prince performances, and lion dances were arranged throughout the event. He noted that the overall scale, visitor turnout, and promotional impact were all highly positive.
Yeh said products featured in the Tainan section, including Guanmiao noodles, Green Garden juice products, Duo Li Duo dried fruits, Ma-Zuan wellness beverages, and Superintendent Tea Eggs, all sold out ahead of schedule, demonstrating that Tainan food products have genuine appeal in the Australian market.
Yeh added that Australia has abundant agricultural resources of its own and a mature food market. For Tainan products to enter Australian households and become part of everyday consumption, one-off exhibitions and sales events are not enough. Support from overseas Taiwanese communities and Taiwanese businesses familiar with the local market is also essential.
During this visit, the delegation therefore held discussions with Taiwanese business groups in Australia. Yeh noted that the feedback gathered from these exchanges is highly valuable to Tainan businesses and can help them refine both their products and market expansion strategies.
The city government also contacted wholesalers specializing in Asian food products and held discussions with local distribution channels regarding representation and distribution of Tainan products. This indicates that the market expansion initiative has moved beyond product sampling and direct sales toward import arrangements, agency partnerships, and long-term distribution cooperation.
